Black sands of Candelaria - Tenerife, Spain

Candaleria also known as Villa Mariana de Candelaria is a small village in the southeast part of Tenerife.

Why is this place so special? It’s not only a sunny village with beautiful beach and friendly people. In Candelaria there is something unique… black sand. The best this should stay at the end so let’s start our journey to Candelaria somewhere else. We left our car next to The Plaza de la Patrona de Canarias (Square of the Saint Patron of the Canary Islands), a beautiful square where are various bars and cafes.

The most important building there is The Basilica of the Royal Marian Shrine of the Our Lady of Candelaria, which is dedicated to Patron of the Canary Islands - the Virgin of Candelaria. Besilica is opened to visitors but don't forget about siesta. You can check the opening hour on the web site: http://basilicadecandelaria.org/

Towards the shore there are statues of the guanches. The island of Tenerife was divided into nine kingdoms, every kingdom had one king. The statues representes: Acaimo or Acaymo , Adjona, AƱaterve, Bencomo, Beneharo, Pelicar, Pelinor, Romen, Tegueste.

After we had visited the main square, we went through the small streets to the nearest beach with black sand. It's breathtaking, simple look at those pictures:
